A police officer has been feared dead after unknown gunmen attacked a checkpoint in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State on Wednesday.
The attackers also suffered a loss as the gallant officers returned fire, killing one of the hoodlums.
The bloody incident reportedly happened at G-Hostel Junction near the popular PRESCO junction in the State.
Though details of the attack are still sketchy, it was gathered that the gunmen numbering over three stormed the police checkpoint on a motorcycle.
They reportedly opened fire on the Policemen at the checkpoint killing one instantly.
In the gun duel that ensued the police were able to kill one of the hoodlums just as they made good their escape.
The Police in Ebonyi confirmed the incident but said that they were still gathering information on the attack.
