Nigerians have been urged to desist from acts capable of over heating the political space before during and after the 2023 general election.

The President, Junior Chamber International, (JCI) Abuja Unity, Amb. Samuel Chinonyerem gave the advice in Abuja at a stakeholders workshop on peace and security.

According to Amb. Chinonyerem the forum was aimed at sensitizing Nigerian youths on the need to conduct themselves for a good electoral process and nation building.

“Youths must take responsibility and be Ambassadors of peace and security especially during the election and also make it a duty to go and pick up their PVCs and vote their preferred candidates.”

“The government through the security agencies must provide an enabling environment for a peaceful election. Politicians should on the other hand desist from any act that will bring violence before, during and after the elections.” he stated.

He explained that different advocacy programs were already in place on awareness creation with collaboration of stakeholders for a free, fair and credible general election.

On her part, the Assistant Director, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mrs Akaayar Hembadoon said the commission has put in place a legal framework to tackle all forms of electoral malpractices to sustain the 2022 electoral act.

Mrs Akaaya enjoined Nigerians especially the youths to collect their PVC’s to exercise their franchise for eligible leaders to emerge for the betterment of the country.

The Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, FCT Command, Mr Felix Ikwegbu said the Corps is ready to partner sister security agencies to maintain law and order and protect lives and property of Nigerians.

He however, stressed that all hands must be on deck to protect the country’s critical assets and ensure peaceful conduct of the general election.
