Oninloka Lawal, a housewife, and her husband, Taiwo Lawal, were arraigned on Tuesday before the Kubwa Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over alleged criminal intimidation.

The police charged the couple with criminal force, intimidation and causing hurt.

The prosecution counsel, John Okpa, told the court that the complainant, Elizabeth Anawo, reported the matter at Byazhin Divisional Police Headquarters on April 17.

Mr Okpa said the complainant, a neighbour to the defendants, was at home when Ms Lawal dragged her hair.

He stated that Mr Lawal joined his wife and kicked the complainant, making her fall down and thus sustaining injuries.

The prosecution said the defendants also threatened to deal with the complainant, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 265 of the Penal Code.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The magistrate, Nneaka Lesley, admitted the defendants to bail of N300,000 each and one surety each, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The magistrate, who said that the sureties must produce means of identification, adjourned the case till May 14 for a hearing.
