The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Dr. Olayode Akangbe Shakiru, a medical professional now facing serious charges of assault and rape involving an 18-year-old job seeker.

Spokesperson for the Command, Yemisi Opalola, stated that an investigation is currently underway while maintaining a poker face amid the gravity of the situation.

Shakiru was apprehended Thursday by a team of officers from the Oke-Baale Police Division in Osogbo after the victim’s family reported the incident. Opalola noted, “He was nabbed along the road as he was making his grand return to Osogbo from Ipetumodu on the Ile-Ife route.” He must have thought he was cruising on Easy Street.

The medical practitioner has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action—a move more necessary than a cup of coffee on a Monday morning.

It appears that Shakiru laid his charming wiles on the unsuspecting victim while she was strolling through the streets of Osogbo, coolly offering her a ride that spiraled into a misadventure. Before dropping her off at Oke-Fia Area, he collected her phone number, promising to secure her a job—presumably not in the field of ethics, where his skills are evidently lacking.

As reported by DAILY POST, the alleged act took place at Shakiru’s residence in the Ilesa Garage area of Osogbo, where the teenager had gone under the pretense of signing a job form that turned out to be laced with ulterior motives.

Describing her ordeal, the teenager recounted her journey from Osunjela community to Osogbo in search of employment. She matched her path with Dr. Shakiru, who seemed to hold the golden key to her future—or at least that’s what he made her believe.

After her harrowing experience, she sought refuge with her older sister, confiding her trauma, which led them to the Oke-Baale Police Station to report the incident. Sometimes, the only way out is to speak up, even if it means crossing into the lion’s den.

In a twist that would make for excellent courtroom drama, a text message from Shakiru on WhatsApp, wherein he expressed his “intention” to help her find a job, has been retrieved as evidence. One can only hope he’s taken notes on better choices since then.

The victim’s elder brother, wishing to remain anonymous to protect the fragile reputation of those involved, mentioned the logistical troubles they faced when trying to locate the suspect’s residence for police action. “We led the police to Atoke Hospital in Igbona Area, where he claimed to work. The nurses there said he’s a ‘listed doctor,’ dropping by now and then like a bad penny.”
