Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has announced the elimination of the state’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He made the announcement during the swearing-in ceremony for three newly appointed commissioners and the state’s chief security adviser on Monday in Bauchi.

Governor Mohammed explained that this decision follows a Supreme Court ruling that grants autonomy to local government areas across the country.

He also dismissed the commissioner for health, Dr. Adamu Umar, asserting that this step was necessary to revamp the governance structure for improved outcomes.

“We must reorganize the cabinet to meet the administration’s objectives effectively.

“We need fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to advance the state positively.

“The former commissioner for health was not removed due to any misconduct; this is simply part of our governance reorganization.

“Soon, we will find a suitable role for him in government where he can be more effective and engaged,” he stated.

The governor urged the new commissioners to promptly immerse themselves in their duties by reviewing handover notes in their respective ministries.

This, he said, would help them keep pace with the administration’s initiatives.

The new commissioners are: Zainab Baba Takko for Women Affairs; Dr. Sani Mohammed for Health; and Mohammed AbdulKadir for Commerce and Industry.

Ahmed Abdulrahman has been sworn in as the chief security adviser.

Speaking on behalf of the commissioners, Ms. Baba-Takko expressed gratitude to Governor Mohammed for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the state’s development.

She pledged to implement strategies that would elevate their ministries to new heights.
