On Sunday evening, gunmen believed to be kidnappers stormed the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivhianokpodi, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The attack took place around 7 pm, as priests and seminarians gathered for evening prayers and benediction.

According to a statement from Reverend Father Peter Egielewa, Director of Communications for the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, the seminary’s Rector, Reverend Father Thomas Oyode, was taken captive during the assault.

Fortunately, the vice-rector and all seminarians are safe and have been relocated to ensure their protection.

Currently, there has been no word from the abductors concerning Father Oyode, heightening concerns for his safety.

Founded in 2006 by Most Reverend Gabriel Dunia, the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary has played a crucial role in training over 500 future priests..
