A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State, (Amb) Tony Amalu has expressed delight for being one of the awardees at Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe Annual Award Lecture (DNAAAL).
At the ceremony held in Abuja on Saturday, 16th November, 2024, Amb. Tony Amalu; a business man and contractor with special interest in Real Estate and properties Development, Investment/ Management, Youth and women empowerment and poverty eradication was recognised for his contribution to nation building, women and youth empowerment in line with principles and ideals of the foremost president of Nigeria Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe.
Receiving the award alongside Enugu State governor, Dr. Peter Mbah and other distinguished Nigerians, Amalu said “It is indeed an honour and a call to duty.”
Speaking on the sideline after receiving the award, Amalu who was also the candidate of the APC for Udi local government in the last Enugu State local government election, also spoke on the state of his party.
According to him; “My experience from the last local government election can be better described as mixed feelings.
“However, I would rather dwell on the witnessed abnormalities within the leadership of our great party (APC) in Enugu State. To say the least, it is most unfortunate that most political leaders in the state are not interested in the welfare and well-being of the party in the State. They are more interested in their selfish and personal aggrandizement. This shameful attitude is the bane to the success of our great party in the State.
“Also, the good governance by the State governor Barr. Peter Mbah made it difficult to campaign against him and his party. But, if the APC party faithful and leaders can shelve their individual interests and unite together in the interest of the party, I am confident that we as a party can pull surprises. Instead, individuals masquerading as party leaders in the State are working against the success of the party despite their pretenses before the national leadership of the party at Abuja.
“My advice to my great party the APC, especially the national secretariat is to pay attention to the state chapter. Scrutinize the leadership to reposition the party for victory in subsequent elections. A lot of men who are occupying positions in the party are not worthy of holding any position, because they lack human management skills. This is why instead of uniting members and bringing others on board, they are busy scattering party stakeholders and carrying out political vendetta in the name of suspensions and what have you.”
Speaking on the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, he quipped “Sincerely speaking, I must confess that his Excellency Barr. Peter Mbah have proven all critics wrong. Enugu and ndi Enugu State have never witnessed this level of unprecedented, inclusive and total infrastructural transformation going on in the State. If you move around the state, you will notice that most abandoned properties by the Chimaroke administration are all being completed most conspicuous is the International Conference Center, the International Hospital, the former renowned Presidential Hotel Enugu is not left out.
“The Civil Servants are well paid as and when due, rural and urban roads construction are not left behind. What else could you ask for? That is why I believe that despite party affiliations, opinion leaders in Enugu despite their party affiliations should rally round the governor to ensure the sustainability of the current transformations going on in the state maka odinma ndi Enugu.
“Governor Peter Mbah deserve an award for his leadership style and for improving the living standard of Enugu indigenes. In a sane clime, the leadership of our great part in the State should be working assiduously to connect the governor to the power at the center in other to attract more dividends to Enugu State.
“We are in opposition because we want the best for the State and now that the governor is working hard I Enugu, we need to bring him closer to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is so important considering the strategic nature of Enugu State in the south East of Nigeria.”
