A delegation from the National Executive Committee (NEC) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide convened with the South East caucus of the House of Representatives at the Maitama lodge of Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

Led by Deputy President General, Prince Okey Nwadinobi, the delegation noted the unavoidable absence of the President General, Senator John Azuta Mbata.

Addressing the lawmakers, Prince Nwadinobi expressed the NEC’s gratitude for the engagement with the House caucus, highlighting the leadership’s mission to foster partnership and collaboration on issues of both Igbo concern and national interest.

He took the opportunity to outline Senator Mbata’s key short-term agenda, which includes establishing Professorial Endowment Chairs in seven universities across the core Igbo-speaking states to promote research on Igbo history, language, and culture. Other initiatives include a review of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution, an upgrade of the National Secretariat, and the enhancement of peace-building and conflict resolution efforts through stakeholder engagement.

In this context, Prince Nwadinobi called for improved communication with the caucus to facilitate a stronger working relationship, optimal partnership, and vibrant civic participation in decision-making processes. He urged legislators to remain exemplary ambassadors of the Igbo people, regardless of party differences, in their pursuit of national development.

In response, Hon. Iduma Igariwey, leader of the caucus and representative for Afikpo North and Afikpo South Federal Constituency, conveyed the regrets of Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who was abroad on official business.

Hon. Igariwey expressed sincere appreciation to Ohanaeze leadership for recognising the importance of collaboration. He affirmed that, based on their monitoring of Senator Mbata’s socio-political track record, they are confident that his leadership will represent a significant advancement for the Igbo apex body.

He reiterated his delight at Senator Mbata’s decisive actions and commendable initiatives to date, assuring the delegation of their commitment to effective representation, national development, and ongoing cooperation with Ohanaeze Ndigbo for the collective benefit of their people.

He assured Prince Nwadinobi that, despite the distinctiveness of their various political parties—which is vital for a healthy democracy—they operate as a united family in matters concerning the development of AlaIgbo and related issues.

Hon. Igariwey further encouraged Ohanaeze to present a unified voice and condemned the emergence of rebellious and illicit groups that issue misleading and damaging statements on behalf of Ohanaeze. He advised the new leadership to act swiftly to address such disruptions.

Among those showing support for their caucus leader were Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West, and Hon. Chris Nkwonta, representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West.

The NEC delegation included Deputy President General Prince Okey Nwadinobi, His Excellency Mr. Emeka Sibeudu, Secretary General; Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Olejeme, Vice President General – Delta; Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, National Publicity Secretary; Mr. Charles Nkata, National Financial Secretary; Mrs. Nene Jane Nwangele, Assistant National Financial Secretary; and Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezukwu, State President Anambra.
