The Executive Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Dr. Vita Ndu, has unveiled a new mass transit initiative; the Ezeagu Igbudu Mass Transit, which aims to enhance mobility and reduce commuting costs for local residents. This initiative marks a significant revival of the local transportation system, which has been inactive for over 30 years.

At the launch ceremony, Dr. Ndu underscored the project’s goal of alleviating transportation challenges for the community, stating, “The project is designed to ease transportation burden and serve Ndi Ezeagu efficiently.” He highlighted the crucial role that accessible transport plays in fostering economic and social development within the area.

Dr. Ndu also took the opportunity to thank his team for their dedication to improving the lives of Ndi Ezeagu through quality service delivery.

Engr. Victor Udeani, the Special Assistant on Works, elaborated on the economic advantages of the Ezeagu Igbudu Mass Transit scheme, pointing out that it aims to boost local commerce while operating on a shared-profit model that benefits both the residents and the Local Government. This approach is intended to ensure the sustainability of the initiative.

The launch received commendation from Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, who praised Dr. Ndu for his transformative leadership and commitment to development. He cited ongoing projects such as road construction in Agba Umana-Ebenebe-Ugwu Nwamgbara, which are expected to enhance security and mobility, along with initiatives in agriculture, skill acquisition, and financial services, including the establishment of a bank in Aguobu Owa. Fr. Anieke emphasised the importance of transportation in driving development, advocating for Dr. Ndu to continue making Ezeagu thrive.

His Royal Highness Igwe Ambassador Lawrence Agubuzor also acknowledged Dr. Ndu’s efforts, noting that under his leadership, the community is experiencing unprecedented progress. He remarked, “The gaps that have long existed in Ezeagu are now being filled under Dr. Ndu’s governance.”

Additionally, Dr. Obi Ozor, Hon. Commissioner for the Ministry of Transportation in Enugu State, expressed gratitude for the initiative, highlighting its alignment with the vision of the State Governor, Barr. Peter N. Mbah, to enhance transportation in the region. Represented by Mr Kachi Ibekwe, the Commissioner emphasised the significance of transportation in economic revitalisation, job creation, and service delivery, while expressing the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the Local Government on mutually beneficial projects.

The launch event attracted numerous State and Local Government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders, all of whom praised the Ezeagu Igbudu Mass Transit scheme as a historic step towards infrastructural and economic revitalisation in the area.

With this new initiative, residents of Ezeagu can anticipate a more affordable, efficient, and sustainable transportation system that promises to enhance mobility, trade, and overall development within the community.
