In a commendable operation, the Enugu State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapped male victim and neutralised one suspect following a dramatic confrontation in the early hours of May 3, 2025.

According to a statement signed by the Enugu State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the operation, conducted by the CP’s Monitoring Unit and the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad, also resulted in the recovery of a firearm and the gang’s operational vehicle.

Ndukwe added that “the kidnapping occurred around 9:00 p.m. on May 2, 2025, in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Enugu, where the victim was abducted from his Mercedes Jeep by armed assailants who fired shots during the incident. The kidnappers subsequently took the victim to an undisclosed location.

“Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa quickly mobilised resources upon receiving information about the kidnapping, instructing his team to ensure the victim’s safe return and the apprehension of the suspects.

“Through meticulous intelligence and coordinated efforts, the police tracked the suspects to a hideout in a valley within the Ngwo area, where a gunfight ensued. One suspect was neutralised during the exchange, leading to the safe rescue of the victim. It was revealed that the kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of twenty million naira (₦20,000,000.00) but had forcefully withdrawn two million, two hundred and fifty thousand naira (₦2,250,000.00) from the victim’s account prior to the rescue.

Ndukwe added that CP Giwa praised the operatives for their swift and successful response and urged them to intensify efforts to capture the remaining fleeing suspects and recover the victim’s vehicle. “We are committed to ridding Enugu State of unrepentant criminals,” he affirmed, calling on citizens to continue supporting the police in their efforts to enhance community safety.

The Enugu State Police Command remains vigilant in its fight against crime, prioritising the security and well-being of its citizens.
