Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and a prominent figure in African sports, has extended his congratulations to Remo Stars for their remarkable victory in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title.

Senator Kalu praised the players, the visionary leadership of the club’s proprietor, Kunle Soname, and the dedication of the club’s officials for their skills and determination throughout the season.

Reflecting on his time as Governor of Abia State from 1999 to 2007, Kalu noted that Enyimba International FC was revitalised under his leadership, winning the premier league title in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2007, as well as back-to-back CAF Champions League titles in 2003 and 2004.

As an international business mogul and passionate sports supporter, Kalu highlighted the unifying power of football in fostering peace and community cohesion. In his goodwill message on Sunday, he urged stakeholders in Nigeria’s sports industry to prioritise grassroots sports development to uncover and nurture emerging talent.

“I felicitate with Remo Stars for securing their first-ever top-flight title with three games to spare. The players demonstrated their capability, commitment, and desire for success. The victory of the team is well deserved and encouraging,” Kalu stated.

He further advocated for increased private sector involvement in sports development, emphasising that sports should be viewed not merely as a leisure activity but as a significant business opportunity.
