Minister inspects key infrastructure ahead of Tinubu’s second-year anniversary celebrations
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on contractors handling major infrastructure projects in Abuja to ensure that they maintain high standards of quality as the projects approach completion.
Wike made the appeal on Monday during an inspection tour of ongoing projects across the capital city, which are scheduled to be inaugurated as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.
Projects Inspected: Inner Northern Expressway and Jahi Interchange
Among the projects inspected was the 16-kilometre Inner Northern Expressway, stretching from Idu to Dei-Dei, being constructed by Salini Nigeria Limited. The expressway is expected to significantly ease traffic flow and improve connectivity in the FCT.
The minister also visited the Jahi Interchange, being constructed by Gilmor Engineering, which is designed to link Wole Soyinka Way with the Murtala Mohammed Expressway—a key junction aimed at enhancing road network efficiency in the area.
Minister Expresses Satisfaction with Progress
Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at both sites, commending the contractors for working around the clock to meet the project timelines.
“The contractors have assured us that they are going to meet up with the deadline; they are working day and night,” Wike said.
“I have confidence that in the next two weeks, the projects will look completely different and will be at the finishing stage.”
He emphasized the importance of project quality, noting that while timely delivery is crucial, adherence to construction standards is non-negotiable.
“I am impressed with the contractors executing the two projects, and what is most important is the quality of the job,” he added.
