Minister says facilities will sanitize the city’s transport system

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the ongoing construction of three ultra-modern bus terminals in Abuja as a major step toward overhauling the city’s transportation system and enhancing security for commuters.

Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during an inspection tour of two of the projects — the Mabushi and Kugbo bus terminals, as well as the access road to the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal in Dakibiyu, which is also under construction.

Critical Infrastructure for Urban Mobility

The minister said the new bus terminals are part of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure that meets the capital’s growing mobility and safety needs.

“We are happy that we’re providing this kind of infrastructure,” Wike said.
“The bus terminals represent a basic but vital intervention in our efforts to revamp the city’s transport system.”

He commended the contractors for their progress and quality of work and promised that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) would ensure the projects are completed within the stipulated timelines.

Safer and More Orderly City Transport

Wike noted that the terminals, once operational, would significantly help sanitize the FCT’s chaotic public transportation landscape. According to him, they will also curb criminal activities, particularly “one chance” incidents, in which unsuspecting passengers are robbed by fake commercial drivers.

“The goal is to take commuters off the roadsides and into safe, designated terminals for boarding buses and taxis,” the minister said.
“This will help address the menace of criminals who pretend to be drivers only to rob passengers. It will also eliminate the illegal use of roadsides as motor parks.”

A Vision for Modern, Secure Urban Living

The bus terminals under construction — located in Mabushi, Central Area, and Kugbo — were awarded in 2024 under the Wike-led FCT Administration. The facilities are expected to include waiting areas, ticketing offices, surveillance systems, and other features aimed at improving the commuter experience and city aesthetics.

Tinubu’s Second Anniversary Projects in View

Speaking on the road network under construction in Dakibiyu, Wike expressed confidence that the project would be completed in time to be included among infrastructure milestones to be inaugurated as part of President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.Wike, FCT

“We are determined to ensure these projects are ready for commissioning. FCT residents deserve first-class infrastructure to enjoy a quality life,” the minister added.
