A former chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) and prominent political figure, Oseloka Henry Obaze, has clarified the circumstances surrounding his recent departure from the party, affirming that his loyalty to former presidential candidate Peter Obi remains unwavering.
Obaze, who resigned from the Labour Party on April 6, 2025, stated in a public release that although he has quit the LP, he has not withdrawn his support for Peter Obi and the movement for a better Nigeria.
“Since the news of my resigning from the Labour Party (LP) on 6th April, 2025 became public, I have been inundated with calls of concern and requests for interviews and clarifications. I thank my well-wishers,” Obaze said.
He reiterated that the reasons for his resignation were clearly outlined in his letter to the party and required no further explanation.
“I believe and have publicly said so, but it bears repeating; while the Labour Party has its internal contradictions: the long festering crisis within the party in the main, are externally and politically engineered, thus making any rational, amicable or judicial resolution of the problem impossible,” he said.
Obaze went further to clarify his political stance post-resignation. “Presently; I am not a card-carrying member of any political party,” he revealed.
However, he added emphatically, “I remain 100% Obidient; I continue to support Peter Obi fully in his pursuit for a New Nigeria that is Possible.”
The former LP stalwart also reaffirmed his commitment to democratic ideals and national progress. “My commitment to democracy and true nation-building in Nigeria remains unfettered,” he said.
In a final jab at the current administration, Obaze declared, “I am of the opinion that the ruling APC government has failed Nigeria and Nigerians.”
Obaze’s statement reinforces the growing sentiment among supporters of Peter Obi, who continue to align with his vision despite the challenges plaguing the Labour Party.
