President Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, described the event as more than a mere acquisition of aircraft, calling it a clear strategic declaration.

“This induction ceremony is not merely about adding new helicopters to our fleet; it is a strategic statement of intent — a demonstration of our collective resolve to defend our nation and reinforce Nigeria’s leadership in Africa,” Shettima said on behalf of the President.

The AgustaWestland AW109S Trekker is a state-of-the-art, twin-engine helicopter known for its speed, reliability, and versatility. Capable of executing various missions including medical evacuations, reconnaissance, VIP transport, and rapid troop deployment, the aircraft significantly enhances the Nigerian Air Force’s operational capacity across diverse terrains and missions.

As Senate Committee Chairman on Air Force (Ag), Senator Akobundu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the modernization and effectiveness of the Nigerian Air Force. He pledged to sustain legislative collaboration with both political and military stakeholders to ensure continued advancements in national air security.
