Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 24-year-old native doctor, Ejike Emmanuel Chinonso, and recovered firearms and ammunition from his shrine at Ugwuochie-Iwollo in Ezeagu Local Government Area.

The arrest was made by officers attached to the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad on May 15, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m. Items recovered during the raid include one locally made pistol, one revolver pistol, one expended and one live .38 special calibre ammunition, and one live cartridge.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the recovery followed the suspect’s confessional statements after his earlier arrest and a subsequent raid on his shrine.

“The suspect confessed to being a member of the Black Axe confraternity,” Ndukwe stated, adding that he will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their efforts. “I urge the operatives to sustain the momentum, ensuring that Enugu State remains uninhabitable for unrepentant criminals,” CP Giwa said.

He also called on members of the public to continue supporting the Command’s efforts in fighting crime.
