The Executive Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, has shared the key focus areas of his administration, underscoring ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, human capital development, agriculture, education, and local market conditions.
Speaking during a recent media briefing in Nnewi, Hon. Anazodo, who assumed office in October 2024 under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), emphasized that his administration has been working tirelessly to drive development across the local government. “Work is ongoing, nonstop in Nnewi,” he affirmed.
Now over six months into his tenure, Hon. Anazodo revealed that building and sustaining goodwill remains a central pillar of his administration. He attributed his emergence as the APGA candidate to the strong support and trust of the Nnewi community, which he says he has since transformed into partnerships for effective governance. “Goodwill is essential,” he noted, “because it creates the foundation for collective efforts needed for sustainable development.”
One of the major priorities of the administration is human capital development. According to the Chairman, over 200 youths from Nnewi have so far benefited from empowerment initiatives, particularly in support of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). These efforts, he said, are aimed at boosting youth productivity and reducing unemployment.
Education is also a strong focus. The council has provided JAMB forms for indigent students in a bid to encourage young people to pursue higher education and improve their future prospects.
On agriculture, Hon. Anazodo disclosed that the local government has supported at least 400 farmers with improved seedlings and organic fertilizers. This intervention is designed to enhance agricultural yield and food security in the area.
Infrastructure development has also received significant attention. The administration is tackling erosion in Oduda Nnewichi and finalizing a lasting solution to the frequently collapsing Ukwaka Bridge, which has now been modernized and fitted with streetlights. He also highlighted the administration’s Zero Pothole Campaign, launched in December 2024, to address the poor state of roads across Nnewi.
Hon. Anazodo acknowledged the deplorable state of markets in Nnewi and expressed his commitment to systematic reforms. So far, his administration has provided 200 open shops free of charge to low-income traders and petty business owners. These interventions span key markets including the Motor Parts Market.
Looking ahead, the Chairman expressed confidence that the coming months will bring even greater progress as his team rolls out more development initiatives tailored to the needs of residents.
He also praised Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for supporting local governments through the execution of massive road projects in Nnewi North. “Governor Soludo has made our job easier with the roads he is constructing across our local government,” Anazodo said.
Hon. Echezona Anazodo’s administration continues to prioritize inclusive governance, with a vision of transforming Nnewi North into a hub of socioeconomic growth in Anambra State.
