Police operatives attached to the Nsukka Urban Division of the Enugu State Command have arrested a 27-year-old suspect, Somadina Ugwueke, for armed robbery and motorcycle snatching.

A statement by the Enugu command public relations officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe said the arrest, which took place around 10:10 p.m. on May 19, 2025, was made possible through swift police action and the support of vigilant community members.

Ndukwe further disclosed that yhe suspect was found in possession of a locally made revolver pistol, one expended cartridge, two live cartridges, a snatched Q-Link motorcycle, and other incriminating items.

“According to preliminary investigations, Ugwueke and an accomplice—who is currently at large—posed as passengers and boarded a commercial motorcycle along Edim Road, Nsukka. Upon reaching Saint Cyprian Road, the suspect reportedly brandished the firearm and, with his accomplice, forcefully took the motorcycle from the rider.

“Following swift action based on credible information, Police Operatives, assisted by vigilant community members, pursued and apprehended the suspect, recovering the said exhibits,” said SP Ndukwe.

He added the “efforts are underway to arrest the fleeing accomplice and any other individuals linked to the criminal gang.

“Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered a thorough investigation and charged the operatives with ensuring that all suspects involved are brought to justice.”
