In the face of widespread tuition hikes by tertiary institutions across Nigeria, Comrade Ajao Adejoke, Special Adviser on Technical Education to the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has commended the management of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) for its decision to maintain existing school fees for the ongoing academic session.

Speaking during an engagement with student representatives on Tuesday, Comr. Adejoke lauded the YABATECH leadership for showing empathy and prioritizing the economic welfare of students during a challenging economic period for many Nigerian families.

“This singular act of consideration by the YABATECH management is not only timely but also deeply commendable,” she said. “It shows that the institution is not only concerned about academic excellence but also about the financial well-being of its students. In a system where students often struggle to balance academics with economic pressure, this decision comes as a breath of fresh air.”

A prominent student advocate known for her dedication to educational equity and access, Comr. Adejoke praised the college’s governing council, the Rector, and the administrative team for adopting what she described as a “progressive and people-centered approach.”

She noted that the decision would offer significant relief to students, particularly those from low-income families who often rely on part-time jobs, scholarships, or limited family resources to pursue their education.

“Yaba College of Technology has once again proven itself to be a leader not just in technical and vocational excellence, but in social responsibility and student-centered governance,” she added.

Comr. Adejoke further urged other institutions across the country to emulate YABATECH’s example, emphasizing that educational sustainability must go beyond infrastructure and innovation to include affordability and access for all students.

She concluded by reaffirming her commitment to student advocacy and the advancement of technical education nationwide.

“I will continue to push for policies that support accessible and inclusive education across Nigeria,” she vowed.

As the academic session progresses, YABATECH’s decision continues to receive widespread praise from the student community and education stakeholders alike, with Comr. Adejoke’s endorsement amplifying the call for student-centered governance in Nigerian higher institutions.
