In a dramatic rescue operation, police operatives from the Enugu State Command, in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch personnel and vigilant community members, have saved a 13-year-old girl from falling victim to a suspected ritual killing plot in Umuojor village, Ishiagu community, Umumba Ndiagu, Ezeagu Local Government Area.
A statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe said; the operation, which occurred in the early hours of May 27, 2025, at approximately 3:15 a.m., also resulted in the arrest of three male suspects: Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38).
However, the prime suspect, High Chief Levi Onyeka Obu, also known by his aliases “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show”, a native doctor and prominent figure in the community, managed to flee the scene and is currently at large.
During the operation, police discovered a concrete-sealed pit within an uncompleted building allegedly used as a shrine by the fleeing suspect. Inside the pit were the decomposing bodies of a male and a female, believed to have been murdered for ritual purposes. According to preliminary investigations, the rescued girl was moments away from being killed in the same fashion when law enforcement intervened.
In response to the gruesome discovery, the Enugu State Government has demolished the buildings owned by the fleeing prime suspect and allegedly used for the criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, who visited the crime scene personally, commended the swift and coordinated efforts of police operatives, local security outfits, and residents.
“This successful operation was made possible through collaboration and vigilance. The police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served,” CP Giwa stated.
He has directed the Command’s Tactical Squads, along with the Investigation and Intelligence Units, to intensify the manhunt for the fugitive native doctor and any other accomplices still at large.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information that may aid the arrest of the fleeing suspect. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
