In a strategic effort to combat youth unemployment and equip young people in Enugu State with practical, income-generating skills, the Enugu SME Center—Office of the Digital Economy—has launched a fully sponsored, four-month Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme.
The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund – Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (ITF-NECA) Technical Skills Development Project and the Construction Skills Training and Empowerment Programme (C-STEMP).
The free programme will provide hands-on training in two in-demand trades:
- Plumbing Installation & Maintenance
- Painting and Decoration
These fields were chosen for their potential to generate sustainable employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in the construction and home improvement sectors.
According to the Special Adviser on MSMEs and Digital Economy and Director-General of the Enugu SME Center, Arinze Chilo-Offiah, the initiative aligns with the state government’s broader human capital development agenda under Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
“This program is not just about learning a trade — it’s about transforming lives. With hands-on training, professional instructors, and real-world application, we’re giving Enugu youth the tools they need to succeed and compete in today’s economy,” he stated.
Programme Benefits Include:
- Practical training delivered by experienced industry professionals
- Nationally recognized certification upon completion
- Job placement support or pathways to entrepreneurship
- Mentorship and access to industry insights
- Zero tuition fees — the programme is fully funded
Eligibility Criteria:
- Open to young men and women currently residing in Enugu State
- Ideal for those who are unemployed or seeking new career paths

With Nigeria’s youth unemployment rate exceeding 40%, this initiative is considered timely and impactful. Organizers believe that vocational education is a key driver for grassroots economic growth and self-reliance.
The Enugu SME Center, together with ITF-NECA and C-STEMP, expressed optimism that the training will produce a new generation of skilled, empowered youths who can contribute meaningfully to the state and national economy.
Young residents of Enugu are encouraged to seize the opportunity and apply before the deadline.
