Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has celebrated the students of St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, for making Nigeria proud with their victory at the inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Championship.
Obi made this known during a visit to the school on Friday, July 4, where he also announced a ₦10 million donation to support infrastructural development at the institution.
“In continuation of my desire to keep investing in the future of our children, I had the honour of visiting St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, to personally congratulate the students and staff on their remarkable victory,” Obi said. “Their achievement brought pride not only to Anambra but to all of Nigeria.”
Obi emphasized that the donation was to aid the school’s infrastructural growth, highlighting the importance of providing a conducive learning environment for students to compete globally.
“A sound learning environment remains essential if our children are to compete globally,” he noted.
The former governor encouraged the students to view their success as a victory for all young Nigerians aspiring for excellence. “I urged them to keep studying hard, reminding them that their future — and the nation’s — lies in their hands,” Obi added.
Commending the school’s staff and management, Obi praised their dedication and affirmed that with proper support, schools in rural areas could achieve global standards. “Their success affirms that even schools in rural areas, when properly supported, can attain global standards. It is a call for us all to continue investing in our children,” he stated.
Obi also lauded the school’s proprietor, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Fr. Ebube Muonso), for his visionary leadership. “I extend deep appreciation to the school’s proprietor for his commitment to academic excellence and moral formation. His dedication has created an environment where students can thrive, not just locally, but on the global stage,” he said.
Obi described the debate team as exemplary, saying, “The team at St. John Vianney exemplifies what Nigerian youths can achieve when given the right foundation. I am deeply inspired by their discipline, eloquence, and intellect. May their success continue to inspire many more across the country.”
