…Ikechukwu Ugwuegede Named South-East Representative on NCC Board
Enugu State has once again gained federal recognition as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the appointment of Ikechukwu Ugwuegede as the South-East representative on the board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The appointment was contained in a letter from President Tinubu to the Senate, which was read during Thursday’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Ugwuegede, a seasoned public administrator and politician, previously served as Chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) between 2011 and 2015. He also contested for the Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 and All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2019 general elections.
The appointment comes amid earlier public concern that the initial list of NCC board nominees did not include a representative from the South-East region, sparking calls for inclusivity and regional balance.
Other confirmed members of the NCC board include Idris Olorunnimbe (Chairman, South-West), Aminu Maida (Executive Vice-Chairman, North-West), Abraham Oshadami (Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, North-Central), and Rimini Makama (Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, North-East).
Also on the board are Hajia Maryam Bayi, Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (rtd), Senator Lekan Mustapha (South-West), Chris Okorie (South-South), and Princess Oforitsenere Emiko (Commissioner, South-South).
In his correspondence, President Tinubu urged the Senate to expedite consideration and confirmation of Ugwuegede’s nomination, expressing confidence in the lawmakers’ cooperation to ensure a balanced and effective leadership team at the NCC.
The appointment is seen as a positive development for Enugu State since governor Mbah moved to the ruling APC.
