PDP for APC

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung representing Kaduna South Senatorial District has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need for “effective representation” and “greater inclusion” in national decision-making.

In a statement personally signed by him on Thursday, titled “A New Chapter: A Message of Unity and Purpose,” Katung said his decision followed “wide consultations” with constituents, political stakeholders, family members, and associates across the senatorial zone.

“This realignment is driven by a genuine desire to serve our people more effectively and ensure that our voices are heard and respected at the highest decision-making tables where the destinies of our communities are being shaped,” he said.

The lawmaker explained that his defection came after extensive engagement with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, both of whom, he said, had demonstrated willingness to partner with leaders from Southern Kaduna to accelerate development in the area.

“My decision also followed appeals from constituents and constructive engagements with President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, who have shown readiness to work with us to promote development in our region,” Katung stated.

He added that his move to the ruling party was undertaken alongside Rep. Daniel Amos and several members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, describing it as “a collective decision taken in the interest of our people.”

Senator Katung praised the APC-led government’s developmental strides in Kaduna South, noting that the party’s record of inclusion and infrastructure renewal convinced him that his senatorial district stood to benefit more through constructive collaboration.

“The APC’s developmental footprints across our senatorial district reflect a commitment to inclusion, equity, and progress,” he said. “This step is about consolidating on the gains already recorded and attracting greater attention to the needs of our people.”

He assured his constituents that his switch to the APC was not driven by personal ambition but by the broader need to secure more meaningful representation and sustainable development for Southern Kaduna.

Addressing potential concerns among his supporters and allies within the PDP, Katung appealed for calm and understanding, emphasizing that political differences should never destroy personal relationships or common aspirations.

“While politics sometimes divides friends or strains relationships, I appeal to all who may feel disappointed to not allow this disagreement destroy personal relationships built on years of trust and shared experiences,” he said.

The Senator reaffirmed his commitment to unity, peace, and service, pledging to continue working with all stakeholders to promote progress and stability in Kaduna South Senatorial District.

“I remain fully committed to the ideals of inclusive governance and service to the people of Kaduna South. Our ultimate goal is unity and development, not division,” Katung concluded.
