Fidelity Advert

Armed bandits have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Bagudo, in what security authorities have described as a “dastardly and cowardly act.”

According to the Kebbi State Police Command, the lawmaker was seized by gunmen who invaded his hometown in Bagudo Local Government Area on Friday night, October 31, 2025, shortly after he returned home from observing Isha’i (evening) prayers.

Police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar, in a statement issued on Saturday, confirmed the abduction and said a combined security operation had been launched to rescue the legislator.

“A joint team comprising police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilantes have been deployed to the area for his rescue,” the statement read.

“The combined forces are currently combing suspected bandits’ routes and surrounding forests in an effort to rescue the lawmaker unhurt and apprehend those responsible for the attack.”

Abubakar said the incident occurred around 8:20 p.m., adding that the command viewed the attack as a direct assault on public order and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The Commissioner of Police has described the abduction as a dastardly act that will not go unpunished,” the statement added.

He said the Commissioner of Police, in collaboration with other security agencies, had ordered a major coordinated search and rescue operation across Bagudo and neighboring communities.

The police appealed to residents of Kebbi State to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in the operation.

“The Commissioner of Police further appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and to provide useful information that could aid ongoing rescue efforts,” Abubakar said.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and assured that the law enforcement agencies will not relent until the Deputy Speaker is safely rescued and those behind the abduction are brought to justice.

As of the time of filing this report, security operatives were said to be combing nearby forests and suspected escape routes in an extensive manhunt for the kidnappers.
