A heartbreaking twist has unfolded in Enugu as 29-year-old Chisom Okonkwo, who once accused her husband of defiling their two daughters, now stands in court facing charges of defamation and giving false information to the police.
According to a charge sheet from the Magistrate Court of Enugu State, Enugu Magisterial District, the case, filed by the Commissioner of Police, alleges that Chisom lied against her husband, Okonkwo Ozioma, thereby destroying his reputation and causing him severe public ridicule.
In the first count, Chisom was accused of publicly shouting at Adoration Junction, opposite Dan-Legal Hotel, Emene, Enugu, sometime in August 2024, claiming that her husband had defiled their two daughters. The statement, prosecutors said, “exposed him to hatred, contempt, and ridicule,” in violation of Section 323 and punishable under Section 325 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.
The second count states that on October 27, 2025, at the State Intelligence Department (SID) in Enugu, Chisom gave false information to detectives, insisting that her husband had indeed committed the act — a claim she allegedly knew to be untrue. The false report led to his arrest and detention, a violation punishable under Section 154(1)(a) and (b) of the Criminal Code.
The charge was signed by a police officer, confirming that the woman has now been formally arraigned.
The revelation has stunned many in Enugu, especially those who remember the initial public outrage that followed Chisom’s accusations last year. Her husband, Ozioma, was briefly detained and dragged through public shame over the allegation that is now believed to be false.
“This is a painful story of betrayal and broken trust,” a resident said, reacting to the development. “It shows how false accusations can ruin lives before the truth finally comes out.”
The court is expected to fix a date for hearing, where Chisom will take her plea and the case will proceed.
