The Anambra State Police Command has announced a major security breakthrough following the disruption of a suspected supply chain providing food and other essential logistics to a criminal group linked to secessionist activities in parts of the state.

In a statement issued on December 12, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said a police-led joint security team—comprising operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, and Agunechemba—acted on credible intelligence in the early hours of December 11, leading to the successful arrest of two members of the syndicate.

According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Mmadubuchi Ike, 28, and Chinonso Izunobi, 34, were intercepted while allegedly transporting supplies to a criminal camp located around Orsumoghu and Aguluezechukwu. The operatives also recovered one Type 06 rifle with ten rounds of live ammunition, two pump-action guns, and twenty live cartridges.

“Information obtained during interrogation linked the suspects to serious offences, including the murder of a youth leader popularly known as ‘Biggy’ in Ukpor, as well as a series of kidnapping incidents across the State,” SP Ikenga said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has assured residents that intensive investigations are underway to track down additional members of the syndicate still at large.

“The Command remains fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of all communities across the State, especially during this festive period,” Ikenga stated.

The Police called on residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with timely information to enhance ongoing operations across Anambra State.
