The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified that the tenure of its newly elected state executives and other party officers will not begin until the expiration of the current leadership’s mandate and their formal inauguration.

In a statement issued on April 17, 2026, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the official handover is scheduled for May 12, 2026, or any later date that may be communicated by the party.

“The tenure of all newly elected State Executives and other party officers shall not commence until the expiration of the tenure of the current executives and their formal inauguration by the Party on May 12, 2026, or on any later date that may be officially communicated,” Abdullahi stated.

He stressed that, until the transition is completed, all serving executives remain the legitimate officers of the party.

“For the avoidance of doubt, all existing executives remain the duly recognised officers of the Party until the completion of this constitutional transition process,” he added.

The party cautioned newly elected officials against taking any premature actions that could disrupt internal order or create confusion within its structure.

“Accordingly, all newly elected executives, particularly at the state level, are advised to take note and desist from any action, representation, or conduct that may contravene this clear constitutional directive or create confusion within the Party structure,” Abdullahi warned.

Reaffirming its commitment to internal discipline, the ADC emphasized adherence to due process and its constitutional provisions, noting that the transition will be conducted in an orderly and transparent manner.
