The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, is set to commission a newly constructed 3.6-kilometre modern access road in Agbogugu, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving rural connectivity and driving socio-economic development across the council area.
The road project, which aligns with the inclusive development agenda of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, stretches across key communities including Umuoye, Shikaghom, and Obodoakpu, providing a vital link to previously underserved settlements.
The project is expected to significantly ease transportation challenges while improving access to critical public institutions such as the Agbogugu Smart Green School, the Type 3 Primary Health Care Centre, and the Agbogugu Farm Estate.
Residents and stakeholders say the road will strengthen access to quality education, improve healthcare delivery, and support agricultural productivity by making the movement of people and farm produce easier and faster.
The road was constructed with modern infrastructure features including double drainage systems, dual pedestrian walkways, and solar-powered streetlights to ensure durability, safety, and round-the-clock use.
According to stakeholders, the project represents more than just physical infrastructure, describing it as “a vision of empowerment, economic stimulation, and enhanced quality of life for residents.”
They noted that “by opening up rural corridors, the initiative is expected to stimulate commerce, ease movement of farm produce, and foster stronger community integration.”
The commissioning also reflects Chairman Okolo’s wider development drive focused on constructing access roads to Smart Green Schools across all eleven wards of Awgu Local Government Area.

The initiative, they said, demonstrates “a deliberate push toward educational accessibility and balanced rural development.”
As Awgu advances its infrastructure expansion, the Agbogugu access road is being seen as a strong symbol of grassroots development, connecting communities, strengthening institutions, and laying the foundation for sustainable prosperity.
