President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term gathered formal momentum on Tuesday as the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Hon. James Faleke, obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on his behalf for the 2027 presidential election.
Faleke, who is also the founder of the Tinubu Support Groups (TSGs), purchased the forms valued at ₦100 million in Abuja, officially signaling the commencement of Tinubu’s re-election process within the ruling party.
The forms were received from the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, who declared the nomination process open in line with the party’s timetable for the 2027 general elections.
The development places President Tinubu firmly in the race for the APC presidential ticket as the party begins preparations for what is expected to be a fiercely contested primary.
Faleke’s move is being seen as a strong political statement from the President’s camp, reinforcing growing speculation and expectations surrounding Tinubu’s intention to seek another four-year mandate.
The APC had recently released its revised timetable for the 2027 elections, fixing its presidential primary for May 23, 2026, while governorship primaries are scheduled for May 21.
According to the timetable, the sale of nomination forms commenced on April 25 and will end on May 2, while the submission of completed forms closes on May 4, 2026.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier announced that the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections would hold on January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
INEC also fixed party primaries and dispute resolution between April 23 and May 30, 2026.
Campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections are expected to begin on August 19, 2026, while governorship and state assembly campaigns will commence on September 9, 2026.
With the formal purchase of the nomination forms, Tinubu’s re-election project has now moved from speculation to active political mobilisation, setting the stage for the next major battle within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
