The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day, celebrating Nigerian workers for their dedication and contributions to national development.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
Congratulating workers across the country, Tunji-Ojo praised their resilience, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to duty, describing their efforts as critical to Nigeria’s growth and prosperity.
According to the statement, “The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers Day.
“The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced this on behalf of the Federal Government. He congratulated workers across the country on this year’s celebration. The Minister commended Nigerian workers for their hard work and dedication to national development. He noted that their efforts are essential for the nation’s growth and prosperity.”
The minister reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare, strengthening their security, and creating a more conducive environment for economic growth and national productivity.
He also urged workers to continue upholding the values of diligence, patriotism, and productivity in service to the nation.
While wishing Nigerians a peaceful and fulfilling Workers’ Day celebration, Tunji-Ojo called on citizens to remain law-abiding and use the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity, hard work, and collective responsibility in nation-building.
