The Enugu State Ministry of Health has intensified its drive to improve healthcare delivery across the state, sealing three illegal health facilities during a strategic monitoring and supervision exercise in Enugu South Local Government Area.
The inspection tour, carried out on Thursday, was led by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Chinyere Ezeudu, alongside other senior directors from the ministry.
The exercise focused on assessing the quality of healthcare services, staff performance, infrastructure, patient management, and compliance with government health regulations in public health facilities across the council area.
During the visit, the team inspected selected facilities, interacted with healthcare workers and patients, and evaluated operational efficiency and service delivery standards.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Ezeudu reaffirmed the commitment of the Enugu State Government and the Ministry of Health, under the leadership of the Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, to building an efficient and people-oriented healthcare system.
She stressed that regular monitoring and supportive supervision were critical to identifying gaps, improving accountability, and ensuring residents receive quality healthcare services.
“Routine monitoring and supportive supervision remain critical tools for identifying gaps, strengthening accountability, and ensuring that residents receive quality healthcare services at all levels,” she said.
The directors also urged health workers to remain committed to their duties, uphold professionalism, and sustain high standards of patient care.
During the exercise, the ministry sealed at least three facilities allegedly operating without valid operational licences.
The team commended facilities that demonstrated excellence in service delivery while also making recommendations for areas requiring improvement.
According to the officials, the exercise was not intended to victimise health workers but to support continuous improvement in healthcare delivery across the state.
“The supervision exercise is not meant to witch-hunt workers but to support continuous improvement in healthcare delivery across the state,” the team stated.
The ministry said the monitoring visit reflects the determination of the state government to sustain ongoing reforms in the health sector under the present administration.
Residents and stakeholders have continued to applaud the ministry’s proactive approach toward strengthening healthcare services and restoring public confidence in government-owned health facilities.
