Senator Siyako Anthony Yaro, representing Gombe South Senatorial District, has dumped the All Progressives Congress and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party after losing the APC senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yaro announced his defection in a statement issued to journalists, declaring that his decision followed “extensive consultations” with political associates, traditional leaders, stakeholders, and supporters across the district.
The senator’s exit is believed to be linked to disagreements over the APC’s alleged consensus arrangement for the 2027 senatorial race, a development that reportedly triggered fresh political tension within the party in Gombe State.
Explaining his decision to return to the PDP, Yaro described the opposition party as the platform that first gave him the opportunity to pursue the development aspirations of the people of Gombe South.
“This decision was not made lightly. But the PDP remains the party that first believed in our collective dream for a greater Gombe South — a dream of better roads, functional schools, accessible healthcare, and empowered youths and women,” he said.
The lawmaker insisted that his defection should not be interpreted as political inconsistency, but rather as a bold move driven by loyalty to his constituents.
“To my supporters and constituents, I ask that you see this return not as a sign of confusion, but as an act of courage and accountability. My loyalty has always been, and will always be, to the people first,” Yaro stated.
He also expressed appreciation to his supporters for standing by him throughout his political journey, describing their encouragement as a major source of strength.
The senator further signalled his intention to remain active in the 2027 political contest, declaring his readiness to continue fighting for the interests of the people of the district.
“I am ready to run. I am ready to win. I am ready to continue defending your interests with every breath in my body,” he declared.
Calling for unity among residents of the district, Yaro urged the people of Gombe South not to allow political interests to determine their collective future.
“Let us move forward together. Let us prove that the people of Gombe South are not pawns in any political chess game; we are the architects of our own destiny,” he added.
The senator’s defection marks another significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections as parties intensify internal battles over tickets and zoning arrangements across the country.
