The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has called on eligible Igbo voters across Nigeria to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of future elections.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Enugu, the National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, described voter registration and participation in elections as fundamental civic responsibilities that must not be ignored.

He urged Ndigbo, especially youths, women, professionals, traders, students, and community leaders, to take the exercise seriously and ensure they are fully registered to participate in the country’s democratic process.

“Voter registration and active participation in the democratic process remain fundamental civic responsibilities and constitutional rights of every Nigerian citizen,” Chukwu stated.

According to him, the strength of democracy depends largely on the active involvement of citizens through elections and political participation.

He stressed that political inclusion, justice, equity, and fair representation can only be achieved when citizens fully engage in the electoral process.

“Political inclusion, equity, justice, and fair representation can only be strengthened when citizens actively participate in the democratic process,” he said.

The Ohanaeze spokesman further noted that Ndigbo must continue to play a strategic role in shaping Nigeria’s political future through increased voter participation and civic engagement.

Chukwu also reaffirmed the commitment of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, under the leadership of its President-General, Senator John Azuta Mbata, to promoting peace, justice, equity, good governance, and the protection of the socio-economic and political interests of Ndigbo within a united Nigeria.

He equally appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that the voter registration process remains transparent, accessible, and free from discrimination or unnecessary bottlenecks across the country.

The statement comes amid growing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
