Residents and businesses in several parts of Enugu metropolis will experience a planned power outage on Sunday as MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited announced a temporary shutdown to enable engineers complete critical reconstruction works on electricity infrastructure in the state.

In a notice issued on Friday, the company said the outage would take place on Sunday, May 10, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

According to the statement signed by the Head of Communications, Emeka Ezeh, the exercise is aimed at ensuring a safe working environment for engineers handling the reconstruction of Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2 towers, alongside the restringing of transmission wires.

“The planned outage is to provide a safe working environment for our engineers to conclude work on the reconstructed Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2 tower, as well as carry out the restringing of wires,” the statement read.

The company disclosed that the maintenance work would temporarily affect power supply on the Trans Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, Ituku Ozalla and Ugwogo 33KV lines.

As a result, electricity supply will be disrupted in several affected areas including Trans Ekulu, Emene, Thinkers Corner, Emenite, Airport, Alo Aluminium, Akpuoga, Nkwubor, Ugwuomu, Abakpa Nike, Nike Lake, Ugwogo and surrounding communities connected to the affected feeders.

MEDL appealed to residents and customers to bear with the inconvenience, particularly consumers connected to Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2 who have reportedly experienced prolonged outages in recent days.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may cause our esteemed customers and appeal for their understanding and cooperation, especially customers served by Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2 who have been without supply for some days,” Ezeh stated.

The company assured customers that electricity supply would be restored immediately after the completion of the maintenance exercise.
