The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of a criminal network and recovered suspected illicit drugs worth ₦1.45 million, a counterfeit US $100 note, vandalised electrical wires and ₦72,550 in cash during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Njikoka Local Government Area.

The operation, conducted on Thursday, August 20, 2026, was carried out by operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, who stormed the suspected hideout at Nawfia, Njikoka LGA, at about 12:48 p.m.

Five male suspects were arrested during the operation. They were identified as Omogo Obinna, 29; Okechukwu Nwagba, 28; Echezona Okonkwo, 29; Awal Umar, 23; and Ogadinma Boniface, 33.

Items recovered from the suspects included substantial quantities of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp), Canadian Loud, Black Mamba, Colorado and Loud, as well as vandalised electrical wires, ₦72,550 in cash and a suspected counterfeit United States $100 note.

The Command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were members of a criminal network operating in the area.

According to the Police, the suspects have made useful statements during interrogation and allegedly provided information on other members of the network.

In a statement issued on Friday, August 21, 2026, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, commended the operatives for the successful raid.

The Commissioner also directed that the investigation be pursued “thoroughly and professionally,” while ordering intensified efforts to track down other fleeing members of the suspected gang.

He further directed the Command to ensure that all persons found to have participated in the alleged criminal activities are brought to justice.

The Police said the operation formed part of its sustained efforts to combat drug-related offences, vandalism and other forms of criminality across Anambra State.

The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to preventing and tackling crime in the state.
