Nnamdi Azikiwe University has launched smart mobile clinics and digital health monitoring solutions on campus as part of a bold healthcare innovation drive championed by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie.
The initiative, introduced through the Care365 Programme in partnership with SiliconHub Limited, is designed to improve access to quality healthcare services and promote digital healthcare delivery within the university community.
As part of the rollout, one of the mobile clinics was deployed to the University Medical Centre, while another was stationed at the Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Female Hostel to provide easier access to medical services for students and hostel residents.
The Smart Care Deployment integrates technology with healthcare delivery through digital health monitoring systems aimed at improving efficiency, accessibility, and real-time healthcare support for both students and staff.
Speaking on the development, the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Jane Nkolika Ezeonu, praised the Vice-Chancellor for what she described as a major achievement within a short period in office.
She commended the university management for prioritising healthcare innovation and improving the welfare of members of the university community.
According to her, the deployment of the mobile clinics would significantly improve access to healthcare services, encourage a preventive healthcare culture through regular medical check-ups, and reduce pressure on existing health facilities on campus.
Students at the Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Female Hostel also expressed excitement over the development, applauding the Vice-Chancellor for locating one of the mobile clinics within their environment.
The students described the initiative as timely and beneficial, noting that it would greatly enhance healthcare accessibility and convenience for hostel residents.
The university said the mobile clinics would provide on-site medical consultations, basic treatment services, routine screenings, immunisation programmes, outreach services, and rapid medical response during emergencies. The system will also support telemedicine access to specialists when necessary.
The partnership with SiliconHub Limited, a Nigeria- and United States-based technology company and owners of the Care365 Health Hub, further reflects the institution’s commitment to innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable healthcare development in line with global best practices.
The company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ngozi Joseph Odumuko, is an alumnus of the university and a recognised technology leader in both Nigeria and the United States.
The introduction of the mobile clinics underscores the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to leveraging technology and innovation to build a healthier university environment.
With the initiative, Nnamdi Azikiwe University says it is further positioning itself as a leader in student-centred development and modern healthcare delivery.
