Nyesom Wike has commended the ongoing Gomani-Yangoji road project in the Federal Capital Territory, describing it as a major step towards expanding development to rural communities in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking during an inspection of the project in Abuja on Thursday, the FCT Minister said the Tinubu administration deliberately shifted focus towards infrastructure development in satellite towns to reduce rural-urban migration and improve connectivity across the territory.

“Remember that when we came on board, one of the directives of Mr. President is that we should not concentrate development, we should not concentrate provision of infrastructure just only in the cities. We must open up all the satellite towns in order to discourage rural-urban migration,” Wike stated.

The minister explained that the 13-kilometre Gomani-Yangoji road project was awarded to Zeberced Construction Company, the same firm that handled the A2-Pai road earlier inaugurated by President Tinubu.

He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the project, noting that major aspects of the construction had reached advanced stages.

“From what we’ve seen, you can attest to the fact that we are very much encouraged. Luckily, the bridge had been launched, which we are standing on, the drainages have been done, optimized in 90 to 95 per cent. They are now building the streetlight pillars,” he said.

Wike disclosed that the road project would be among key projects slated for inauguration during activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office in June.

He commended the contractor for maintaining quality standards and keeping to the agreed delivery timeline.

“I commend, as usual, the contractor, Zeberced, not only for providing quality jobs, but also keeping to the timeline, making promises that we will inaugurate this road this June. I’m happy,” the minister added.

Wike further praised the company’s management and staff for their commitment to delivering the project on schedule.

“I believe that when Mr. President comes here, it will be a thing of joy for him to see that development is passing through all the satellite towns,” he stated.
