A House of Representatives aspirant under the All Progressives Congress for the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, Mahmud Sadis Buba, has withdrawn from the race following weeks of public attention and controversy surrounding his age claims.
Buba, whose ambition generated widespread reactions on social media and within political circles after conflicting details about his age emerged online, announced his withdrawal in a statement issued on Thursday.
The APC aspirant said his decision was influenced by ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party and consultations with political stakeholders, family members, and associates.
“This was not an easy decision. But it was hastened by the reconciliation efforts initiated by stakeholders and leaders of our party,” he stated.
Buba explained that he decided to step down in the interest of party unity and electoral victory.
“I have decided that this decision is in the best interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC). I believe that uniting behind a single candidate is paramount to our victory in the general election and for the continued progress of our constituency and state,” he added.
The aspirant thanked the leader of the party in Kaduna State, Uba Sani, and the APC leadership for allowing him to participate in the nomination process.
“The experience has been enriching, and I am grateful for the immense support from my constituents and supporters throughout this journey,” he said.
Buba also reaffirmed his loyalty to the ruling party, insisting that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as weakness.
“My withdrawal is not a sign of weakness, but a sacrifice for the greater good of the party. I assure you that I remain a faithful party member and am committed to working tirelessly to ensure the victory of the party’s consensus candidate and the party at large at the polls,” he stated.
He further urged his supporters to remain calm and unite behind whoever eventually emerges as the APC candidate for the constituency.
The aspirant’s campaign had attracted unusual public scrutiny after questions surfaced over discrepancies in documents relating to his age, sparking debate across social media platforms and political forums.
