Socialite and businessman, Cubana Chief Priest, has broken his silence following his crushing defeat in the All Progressives Congress primary election for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in Imo State, saying his “only regret” was trusting community elders.

Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, had contested for the APC ticket to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The celebrity businessman, who also serves as the Imo State Coordinator of the City Boys Movement — a support group backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu — lost the primary election despite months of political mobilisation and public support for the ruling party.

Reacting in a viral video after the outcome of the primary, Cubana Chief Priest said he had no regrets about venturing into politics but expressed disappointment over what he described as betrayal by elders in his community.

“I’m a hustler, and I didn’t regret trying to contest for a position. My only regret was trusting the elders in the community,” he said.

“I know how much I gave them, but only 14 people voted for me in the primary,” he added.

The nightlife entrepreneur had earlier declared his political ambition this year, presenting himself as part of a new generation of young Nigerians seeking cleaner and issue-based political participation.

His defeat has since sparked reactions on social media, with supporters debating the influence of money, grassroots structures and political loyalty in party primaries.
