Crisis has erupted within the All Progressives Congress in Kaduna State after the campaign council of House of Representatives aspirant, Abdulazeez Abubakar Kaka, rejected the outcome of the party’s primary election for Kaduna North Federal Constituency, describing the exercise as a “clear hijack of democratic process.”
In a statement issued on Saturday, Chairman of the Abdulazeez Abubakar Kaka Campaign Council, Hon. Garba Adamu, said the camp would not recognise the purported APC primary said to have been conducted on May 16, 2026.
According to him, party members and supporters loyal to Kaka arrived at the designated venues across the 12 wards expecting the exercise to take place, only to discover that no officials or electoral materials were present.
“The Abdulazeez Abubakar Kaka Campaign Council rejects in totality the purported All Progressives Congress House of Representatives primary election for Kaduna North Federal Constituency said to have been conducted on 16th May, 2026,” the statement read.
“Our team and supporters (APC card carrying members) were fully prepared and physically present at the supposed venue of the exercise across the 12 wards, only to discover that no officials, electoral materials, or arrangements for the conduct of the primaries were available.”
The campaign council alleged that a rival group later surfaced and announced what it described as questionable results.
“Shockingly, a group aligned with an aspirant emerged under questionable circumstances and announced comic results,” Adamu stated.
The group further accused unnamed interests within the party of attempting to impose a predetermined candidate on party members.
“This is a clear hijack of democratic process, an abuse of internal party democracy, and a calculated attempt to impose a predetermined outcome on the people,” the statement added.
The campaign council called on the national leadership of the APC to urgently investigate the situation and restore confidence in the party’s internal electoral process.
“We therefore call on the leadership of the APC to urgently investigate and address this injustice before it damages public confidence in the party and democracy itself,” Adamu said.
Despite the controversy, the group urged its supporters to remain calm and committed to pursuing what it described as their democratic rights through lawful means.
“We urge all our supporters and party loyalists to be resolute and be assured that, we will tirelessly work hard to claim our democratic right to ensure that rule of law prevails,” the statement concluded.
