The Anambra State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the suspected murder of a 23-year-old female nursing student whose lifeless body was discovered in her residence at Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on June 14, 2026, prompted swift intervention by the police after the victim was found dead within the compound where she lived as a tenant. She was later identified as a student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, to take over and expedite a discreet and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Police operatives who visited the scene reportedly observed a deep cut on the deceased’s thigh, visible marks of violence, and blood stains around the environment—findings that have heightened suspicion of foul play.
Following preliminary investigations, the landlord of the premises has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation to assist ongoing inquiries. The remains of the deceased have also been deposited in a hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
CP Orutugu, while ordering an accelerated investigation, charged detectives to ensure a thorough probe into the case.
He stated:
“Expedite action on the investigation into this case and ensure that the circumstances surrounding her death are uncovered without delay.”
The police commissioner further warned against any lapse in the investigation, stressing:
“Leave no stone unturned in uncovering the facts and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.”
He also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to justice and urged members of the public with useful information to assist the investigation.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement issued on June 18, 2026.
