The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced that it has officially uploaded the names and particulars of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal, describing the move as a significant milestone in its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement posted on his official X account.
According to Abdullahi, the successful submission of the candidates’ details demonstrates the party’s readiness for the 2027 presidential contest and its commitment to presenting Nigerians with what it described as a credible alternative.
“We are pleased to announce that we have successfully uploaded the names and particulars of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar (GCON), and our Vice Presidential Candidate, Rotimi Amaechi (CON), to the nomination portal of INEC Nigeria,” he stated.
He added:
“This marks another important step in our preparations for the 2027 general election and our commitment to offer Nigerians a credible alternative built on competence, unity, and national renewal.”
The development is expected to put to rest widespread speculation over the status of Amaechi’s vice-presidential nomination.
Questions had continued to trail the former Rivers State governor’s acceptance of the ticket after the ADC announced him as Atiku’s running mate more than a week ago, with Amaechi yet to make any public statement confirming or rejecting the nomination.
However, the official upload of his name and particulars to INEC’s nomination portal by the party is widely seen as confirmation that the ADC is proceeding with the Atiku-Amaechi ticket for the 2027 presidential election.
The latest development comes as political parties continue to meet INEC’s timetable for the submission of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ADC expressing confidence that its presidential ticket is firmly in place as it intensifies preparations for the polls.
