More than 13,000 civil servants in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) will begin participating in the 2025 promotion exercise from Wednesday, following the approval of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the exercise would run for 10 days and cover officers across 150 cadres and grade levels.
According to Ezeh, the promotion exercise forms part of efforts by the FCT Administration to strengthen the public service and ensure eligible workers are given opportunities for career advancement.
He said: “As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President, the Honourable Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has approved the promotion exercise for over 13,000 FCT Civil Servants for the year 2025.
“The exercise is expected to commence on July 1, 2026 for a period of ten days.”
The commission chairman further revealed that Wike had directed that the 2026 promotion exercise be concluded before the end of the year to prevent a backlog and ensure that qualified officers continue to progress in their careers.
According to him, the minister also instructed the commission to collaborate with all relevant FCTA agencies to guarantee a seamless process and address challenges encountered during previous promotion exercises.
“The Minister further directed the Commission to ensure that 2026 promotion is also conducted before the end of the year to ensure all eligible officers are given the opportunity to grow in the service. He directed the Commission to work with all relevant agencies of FCTA to ensure a hitchfree exercise such that all issues which arose from the previous exercise do not repeat themselves,” Ezeh said.
He assured participants that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure a smooth and transparent exercise, urging candidates to remain patient throughout the Computer-Based Test (CBT) process.
Ezeh also wished all participating officers success in the promotion examination.
The FCT Civil Service Commission made history in 2024 as the first civil service commission in Nigeria to conduct its promotion exercise through a Computer-Based Test (CBT), just six months after the commission was inaugurated.
