The Federal Government has confirmed the death of a 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate, Miss Nnani Adaobi Marian, who was killed after sustaining injuries during a Russian aerial attack on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the tragic development in a statement, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the young Nigerian, who recently graduated from Kharkiv National Medical University.

According to the ministry, Marian died from injuries she sustained during the attack, as fighting between Russia and Ukraine continues to claim civilian lives.

“The Federal Government is mourning the death of a 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate, Miss Nnani Adaobi Marian,” the ministry said.

It added that she “died from injuries sustained during a Russian aerial attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine.”

The ministry disclosed that Nigerian diplomatic missions in Ukraine and Germany have been directed to work closely with relevant authorities to verify all circumstances surrounding the incident and provide the necessary consular assistance to the deceased’s family.

“On behalf of the Federal Government, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family,” the statement said, adding that the ministry is “in contact with Nigerian Missions in Ukraine and Germany to verify details and provide consular assistance.”

The Federal Government also renewed its appeal for an immediate end to hostilities in Ukraine, stressing the need for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The ministry reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the protection and welfare of its citizens abroad, assuring that developments would continue to be closely monitored while diplomatic missions provide all necessary support to affected Nigerians.
