The Federal Ministry of Defence has dismissed as false reports claiming that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.), is planning to resign from office, describing the speculation as malicious, fabricated and the handiwork of mischief-makers.

The ministry made the clarification in a statement issued on Monday by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, following the circulation of reports on online and social media platforms alleging that the minister had concluded plans to step down from office.

The statement stressed that General Musa remains fully committed to his constitutional responsibilities and continues to provide strategic leadership in advancing Nigeria’s defence and national security agenda.

According to the ministry, there is no truth whatsoever in the resignation claims.

“The attention of the Office of the Minister of Defence has been drawn to a malicious and entirely fabricated rumour circulating across various online and social media platforms alleging that the Minister has expressed an intention to step down from his position.

“We wish to state unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms that these rumours are absolute falsehoods borne out of complete mischief.

“The Minister remains deeply committed to his national security mandate and continues to provide strategic leadership for the country’s defence sector, with tangible results already being recorded.”

The ministry urged Nigerians to disregard the reports, insisting that the minister has no intention of resigning and remains focused on delivering on the administration’s defence priorities.

It also called on media organisations and social media users to verify information through official channels before publication to curb the spread of false information.

The statement further advised members of the public to seek clarification from the Office of the Minister of Defence whenever in doubt about information concerning the ministry or its leadership.
