The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports linking the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, to an ongoing investigation into alleged visa racketeering, insisting she is not under investigation.
The anti-graft agency made the clarification in a statement posted on its official X account on Monday, July 20, 2026, following media reports suggesting that the Immigration chief was being investigated over alleged visa fraud involving officers of the service.
The Commission said while it is prosecuting some immigration officers over alleged visa-related fraud and conducting further investigations that could lead to additional prosecutions, the NIS Comptroller-General has no connection whatsoever with the cases.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is aware of reports in the media about alleged visa racketeering involving some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, especially subtle insinuations about assumed investigation of the Comptroller General of the Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap,” the statement read.
The EFCC stressed that reports suggesting Nandap was under investigation were false.
“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG.”
According to the agency, criminal proceedings are already ongoing against some immigration personnel accused of visa fraud at the Federal High Court, while investigators continue to examine the activities of other suspected officers.
“There are subsisting cases of alleged visa fraud against some immigration officers at the Federal High Court. Further investigations are ongoing with the possibility that more NIS officers could be arraigned for alleged fraudulent practices in the near future.”
The Commission, however, reiterated that the ongoing investigations do not involve the Comptroller-General.
“However, the Immigration CG is not remotely connected to these investigations.”
The EFCC also urged journalists and media organisations to verify information relating to its operations before publication to prevent the spread of misinformation.
“The media is enjoined to always seek clarifications on the activities of the EFCC to avoid misrepresentation of facts.”
