The Liberation People’s Party (LPP) has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its timetable for the 2027 general election primaries, inviting the electoral body to monitor all stages of its candidate selection process in line with the Electoral Act, 2026.
The notice, dated July 20, 2026, was addressed to the Chairman of INEC and jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Hon. Bashir Okunlade, and National Secretary, Hon. Ishaq Abubakar.
According to the letter, the party will commence its electoral activities with a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on August 13, 2026, at Green Minds Hotels, Utako, Abuja, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The LPP disclosed that its presidential primary will hold on August 27, 2026, at Green Minds Hotels, Utako, Abuja, from 11:00 a.m.
Other primary elections are scheduled as follows:
- Senatorial primaries: August 29, 2026, across the 109 Senatorial Districts.
- House of Representatives primaries: August 30, 2026, across the 360 Federal Constituencies.
- Governorship primaries: August 31, 2026, at party secretariats in the 28 states conducting governorship elections.
- State House of Assembly primaries: September 1, 2026, across the various state constituencies.
The party also informed INEC that it would submit its membership register on August 3, 2026, in compliance with the Electoral Act, which requires political parties to make the register available at least 21 days before the commencement of primary elections.
Inviting the electoral umpire to monitor the exercise, the party stated: “Consequently, we request you to attend and observe each of the above events in line with provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.”
Expressing confidence in the commission’s cooperation, the LPP added: “We look forward to your cooperation.”
The notification marks the party’s formal entry into preparations for the 2027 general elections as political parties continue to align their internal activities with INEC’s approved electoral timetable.
