Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the payment of the first tranche of the medical bills of veteran Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu, in a move aimed at supporting the Abia-born screen icon as she battles health challenges.
The intervention was disclosed on Tuesday by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Dr. Justice Okey Martins (JMartins), who commended Otti for what he described as a timely and compassionate response to the actress’s medical needs.
According to Martins, the governor has approved payment for the first phase of Nwosu’s treatment, but appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the actress financially to ensure she receives the full medical care she requires.
Announcing the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Martins wrote: “His Excellency @alexottiofr has just stepped in on the health issues of our Abia-born Nollywood legendary actress, Mrs. Ngozi Nwosu, to approve the first part of our medical bills.”
While expressing gratitude to Governor Otti for the intervention, the governor’s aide stressed that additional assistance would still be needed to cover the remaining cost of the actress’s treatment.
“While we sincerely appreciate His Excellency, we still appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians to please support her in any way possible,” he added.
The governor’s intervention has been welcomed as a significant boost to efforts to secure adequate medical care for the celebrated actress, whose decades-long contribution to Nigeria’s film industry has earned her widespread admiration.
