A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Salihu Lukman, has declared his determination to see the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu removed from government in the 2027 general elections.
Lukman said his decision was driven by concerns over the current state of the nation, adding that he had started consultations with individuals and groups within his party as well as members of the opposition to create a new political movement ahead of the election.
The former APC national official said the country needed a stronger opposition capable of presenting a credible alternative to Nigerians.
“I must be honest, I am frustrated with the way things are going. That is why we have begun consultations with like-minded people, both within our party and across the opposition, to build an independent movement,” Lukman said.
He criticised opposition parties for their inability to work together, saying their lack of unity had weakened their efforts to challenge the ruling party.
According to him, many of the challenges facing the opposition, including prolonged legal disputes and political setbacks, were linked to poor coordination among opposition leaders.
“We must challenge the opposition leadership. They either unite or stop wasting Nigerians’ time,” he stated.
Lukman’s remarks come as political realignments continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, with various parties and political actors exploring alliances and strategies aimed at shaping the country’s next political direction.
